Access control & intrusion detection
The intrusion alarm system helps prevent unauthorized entry into specific areas by detecting presence, triggering audible/visual alarms, and silently notifying intervention teams remotely. From a components perspective, such a system consists of:
- Cable routes—the network itself—which enables transmission of signals from sensors/detectors to the intrusion detection/alarm control panel.
- Detection elements—devices that perform presence detection;
- Keypads—peripheral devices that allow the user to operate the system;
- Alarm control panel—the main device that all system elements connect to and which manages the entire setup;
- Alarm transmission devices (communicators)—collect all signals from the control panel and forward them to predefined recipients, such as the rapid intervention dispatch center or other authorized persons;
- Audible/visual warning devices—devices through which an intrusion alarm system signals unauthorized entry using sound and/or warning lights.
An access control system is a set of devices that physically protects certain areas against unauthorized access. It consists of:
- Access control controller—receives information from connected devices, decides whether to lock or unlock access for a given area, stores received information, keeps records, and displays time and location information regarding access;
- Magnetic card reader;
- Proximity card reader;
- Access keypad;
- Fingerprint or iris reader;
- Magnetic lock (maglock);
- Backup battery;
- Computer—when time & attendance software or access verification software is used;
- Time & attendance software—needed for tracking working hours or verifying entries/exits for people using the access control system.
